Mariko Orii: Community Engagement Intern
As part of her goal to recruit and engage passionate undergraduate students to communities in need in the Greater Seattle area, Mariko will be joining the Pipeline Project team as an intern this 2017-2018 academic year.
Originally from the Bay Area, Mariko is currently a junior at the University of Washington majoring in Sociology. She is passionate about education, law, and social justice. Through joining the Pipeline Project, Mariko discovered her calling for bringing educational equity to students in need by volunteering at the East African Community Services after school program in South Seattle.
Volunteering and working with diverse groups of K-8 students has opened her eyes to all of the educational inequities that is embedded in the U.S. public school system. Through her relationships with Pipeline, East African Community Services, and enthusiastic undergraduate students who are eager to make a change, she hopes to bring together communities that strive to help kids reach their fullest potential and be successful individuals.
Welcome Mariko to the Pipeline Team! We are going to have the best year ever!
