Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards

Nationally competitive scholarships

Nationally and internationally competitive scholarships recognize and support students from across disciplines to study, research, go abroad or gain experience. Applying for these awards presents you with the opportunity to reflect on who you are becoming, your accomplishments and your goals through essays and interviews. Many of these awards require you to be nominated or endorsed by your campus and we are here to facilitate that process.

How to be nominated

To be nominated or endorsed for a scholarship, you will apply through our office. Be sure to check our database for UW campus deadlines, which will precede the national deadline for most scholarships. We recommend attending an information session about the scholarship and meeting with an advisor as early as possible. When it’s time to apply for campus nomination, you’ll work with our scholarship advisors to submit any required documents to our local selection committee. If nominated, our office will support you as you go through the national or international application process.
