Research Project: The Effects of Rhythm and Working Memory on the Utilization of Speech Rhythm
Project Description: I am conducting an experiment that uses sensitivity to rhythm and working memory to explain the rhythm effect on speech recognition in noise. By understanding the factors that improve speech comprehension in noise, we can create individually-tailored hearing aids that adapt to people’s hearing abilities and thus improve communication in all types of environments.
What have you learned throughout your research project?
I have learned that even if research doesn’t go the way you planned, there is always something that can be learned from it moving forward. There is no such things as “failure” in research!
What piece of advice do you have for future applicants?
Start early and ensure that your application essay includes all of the requirements listed on the website. Also, use specificity on all aspects of your study set up and what impact it will have.
