Research Project: UW First-Year Programs FIG Leader

Project Description: As a returning FIG Leader, I prepared and taught an introductory college transition course (GEN ST 199) for the second time to incoming freshmen of the UW class of 2028. In this role, I prioritized student perspectives and mutual respect. I was responsible for course logistics, grading, canvas announcements, and email inquiries.

What have you learned throughout your research project? I learned how to better navigate hard conversations with students who were struggling with classes and college, or uncertain about the future. Being a leader requires an actionable plan, effective communication, and patience, all aspects which I hope to carry into my career and personal relationships later in life.

What piece of advice do you have for future applicants? Choose something you’re truly passionate about, and write honestly and personably.
