Research Project: Investigating the Impact of Patient-Specific Blood Viscosity on CFD Simulations of Coiled Aneurysms
Project Description: This project investigates the effect of blood viscosity on patient-specific computational fluid dynamics simulations of pre- and post-treatment of endovascularly-coiled cerebral aneurysms. We hope to improve the predictive power of CFD simulations regarding the treatment outcome of aneurysm coiling, allowing us to better predict aneurysm recurrence, and eventually treatment outcomes.
What have you learned throughout your research project?
I have learned so much about the multi-step process that leads to usable data. In addition, I have learned new coding languages and how we can use it to analyze complex variables in a relatively short amount of time. The power of algorithms is limitless in helping making conclusions about real patients and their physiological issues.
What piece of advice do you have for future applicants?
Work very closely with your mentor if possible! They can be very helpful in summarizing the meat of your content for your essay. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from the Scholarship advisors as they can provide very helpful insight on what they are looking for in the application (in both your project content and essay).
