Research Project: Effects of spinal stimulation and treadmill training on neuromuscular control in cerebral palsy
Research Project Description: This research investigates the effects of spinal stimulation and treadmill training on neuromuscular control in children with cerebral palsy. By processing electromyography signals and kinematic data during overground walking, an analysis of muscle activation patterns and muscle activity variance will provide insight about the changes in motor control as a result of these novel interventions.
What advice do you have for future Mary Gates Research applicants?
Don’t hinder yourself by thinking you can’t accomplish something. You are only as capable as you allow yourself to be!
What have you learned throughout your research project?
I have learned how to be more independent in my research by trying to find answers to my own questions, such as how analyzing data differently may impact my outcomes. I have also learned how to be more confident in my abilities as a researcher and to not shy away from tackling difficult things.
