Research Project: Error-controlled Network Propagation
Project Description: I developed a fast and novel error-control method for predictions generated by network propagation. This is achieved by applying knockoff filter into the context of network data. This method has great application in solving biomedical problems such as protein homology detection.
What have you learned throughout your research project?
I had the opportunity to learn a wide array of technical skills including processing and analyzing biological data, building ML models, and applying knockoff filters in the context of network propagation. Most importantly this project showed me a complete road map of developing research project from ideation, implementation, to making discoveries.
What piece of advice do you have for future applicants?
You should really understand your research project from a broader perspective and the impact that your project is creating. Talk frequently with your mentor to understand your research from their perspective.
