UW Pipeline Project

Kaylen Dailey

“Being a tutor has definitely opened my eyes to see how important it is to be a consistent person in these kids’ lives.”

How did you discover Pipeline?

I discovered Pipeline while I was attending a course in Spring quarter 2017. A couple students came in to advocate for Pipeline and what a cool program it was and I immediately was interested!

How has being a tutor impacted your goals and dreams for the future?

Being a tutor has definitely opened my eyes to see how important it is to be a consistent person in these kids’ lives. I started tutoring my kids Fall quarter and realizing how important consistency is in mentorship for them led me to set a goal to stay with them throughout their entire kindergarten year.

What are you working on at your current tutoring site?

I am currently tutoring at Northgate Elementary in a Kindergarten class right now so we mostly work on basic numbers and reading. I usually spend reading and math time with them and frequently sit with them to chat during their lunchtime.

What is a favorite memory you have while doing your work?

There are too many good ones. I think consistently my favorite thing about working with my kids is coming in everyday and seeing how excited they are that I am there. They always yell “MISS KAYLEN I MISSED YOU” and that is always just extra sweet and rewarding!
